Igor Mahovici, plastic surgeon: “To regain self-confidence, correcting certain external defects, it is not necessary to contact foreign clinics”

How to work with the patient, how any operation begins and about the technological capabilities of the Medical Center “Galaxia”.
– Mr. Mahovici, what problems can plastic surgery solve today?
– The possibilities of plastic surgery, in particular in the Medical Center “Galaxia”, are quite wide. Every year 2-3 times I visit international forums, symposia, where we exchange experience with foreign colleagues: we watch online broadcasting from operating rooms, master new techniques. In other words, I try to learn from the valuable experience of my foreign colleagues in order to implement it here in Moldova.
Patients come to us for a quality result, and our main task is to provide it. Therefore, we are constantly aware of all the world innovations in the field of plastic surgery. Without exaggeration, I can say that the current technical equipment of the center, the experience and professionalism of specialists allow even the most complex plastic surgery.
For example, we successfully perform plastic surgery of the eyelids and face: blepharoplasty of the upper and lower eyelids, face lifting of several types – superficial, when only skin is tightened, and deep. Contour correction of the face, ear correction, breast correction, figure correction – this is liposuction of various zones, abdomenoplasty (restoration of the aesthetic proportions of the abdomen). – By experience, tell me, who often comes to you? Women?
“Of course, most of my patients are women.” But men are adressing too. Basically, they are interested in such procedures as the correction of the ears or nose. By the way, rhinoplasty is very popular with former boxers. As for women, depending on age, the problems are different. Young people are coming to improve something in appearance, correct minor defects, for example, ears or nose, girls want to increase their lips or breasts.
In elderly patients, problems are naturally associated with age-related changes. Most often, they are interested in tightening the skin of the face, eyelids, neck, abdominal shape correction, liposuction, neck lifting, excision of scars. I want to note that the above operations are quite simple and we have already accumulated sufficient experience in the center.
– How is your work with the patient?
– Based on my own experience, I determine if a person really needs surgery. Sometimes, it happens that a person does not have an external problem, but only a psychological one. Therefore, I always try to correctly figure out everything, what is the reason, why is plastic necessary? After all, you see, when a woman wants to increase her lips or to do abdominoplasty to keep her spouse, plastic cann’t to help save her family.
There are cases that the patient has too high expectations. Sometimes it can kill even the most excellent result. In such cases, it is very important to explain to the person what we can do and what result to get, to explain all the features and stages of the operation. You need to show what could be the result. Most often, I show patients pictures with my results in the interested area.
Another important point, sometimes the patient is not psychologically ready for the operation, he expects immediate results. But plastia is a surgical procedure that requires a period of postoperative adaptation. I always warn patients about this. – Suppose a woman realized the need for surgery. The doctor himself understands this: tell me, how does any operation begin?
– Of course, with the tests. At the Medical Center “Galaxia” we begin any operation with a examination of all the functions of the internal organs, we check for hepatitis and other diseases. We ask the patient in detail what he was ill in childhood, if consult with specialized doctors is necessary – a neurologist, a cardiologist, we prescribe it. There are strict rules, and we have no right to violate them. In addition, we conduct all analyzes in the form of express diagnostics within a few hours. This means that the patient can come in the morning, at eight in the morning, pass all tests, and in a couple of hours it will be known whether he can do the surgery or not.
– The result of this or that plasty depends on …?
– Not only in plasty, but also in medicine, the results are directly proportional to the surgeon’s experience, his ability to use modern devices and facilities for operations, as well as the equipment of the clinic with high-quality medical equipment, use of modern medicines, good working conditions and the ability to create maximum comfort for patients.
As I have already noted, we constantly monitor world events in the field of surgery and plastic surgery in particular. Therefore, I can say that today, in order to regain self-confidence, having corrected certain external defects, it is not necessary to contact foreign clinics. For example, the success of any operation depends on the anesthetic apparatus. It is very important that the patient easily enters into a state of anesthesia and also easily leaves it, without complications. Therefore, the most modern anesthesiological apparatus is installed in the department of surgery with which I head.
– We will change the conversation in a slightly different direction. I know that in Medical Center “Galaxia” in the treatment of varicose veins use a method such as hardening. Tell us more about it.
– Absolutely. In general, there are several possible treatment options for varicose veins. First, it is a surgical, more traditional method for our population. Veins are removed by streaming – pulling veins out from under the skin with a special probe. And secondly, this hardening is an outpatient method, which is used in our center. It allows you to “block” the diseased vein, after which the blood normally passes through healthy veins. The procedure takes about 20 minutes. This process is reminiscent of “pasting” the veins and their subsequent “dissolving”. This is a relatively new, but positively proven treatment method.
– And finally, what can you say about the results of your work?
“Surgery is a matter of my whole life, and my results are the happy faces of my patients, whom the surgical operation helped them to believe in themselves and change their lives for the better”.
